Richards Phillip Hastings Eyre was born in 1888 in Agra, the son of a Lieutenant Colonel serving in the army in India. At some point he returned to England.
Prior to enlisting Richard worked as an Insurance Clerk in Wimbledon.
Richard served with the Royal Army Service Corps in Saloniki from the 1st September 1916. In 1919 he served as a Lieutenant in the Balkans and was awarded an MBE.
He continued to serve in the Army throughout his career and in 1940, as a Major, was awarded the OBE.
He married Daphne Brierley in Kensington, London in 1933 and at some point moved to Winsford, first living at Farm then Larcombe Foot and finally Steep Cottage
Richard died in Surrey in 1982 and is buried in Winsford Church.
