Berniece M. Brandes was born on March 21, 1915 in Merrick
County to Albert and Martha (Wegner) Suck. She grew up in Merrick County where she married Harold M. Brandes on September 17, 1939 at the EUB Archer Zion church near Archer, Nebraska.

She worked for Hudgens Dime Store while the young couple lived in Central City. A few years later they moved to a farm north of Central City. She was a lifetime member of the United Methodist Church. She was a member of the local community Friendship Club and the United Methodist
Women. She was also a 50-year member of a Pinochle Club. She loved spending time with her family and friends, being in the outdoors, cooking, travelling and watching birds.

Survivors include her husband, a daughter, Cheryl Brandes Rose of Indianola, Iowa; three grandchildren, and a brother and sister-in-law, Milton and Darlene Suck of Palmer.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Connie Greenwood, and four sisters, Esther Goerl, Mildred Rawlings, Dorothy Conway and Elberta Chestnut.
