ROANOKE RAPIDS — Mr. Chester Frances Allsbrook Sr., 95, of 730 Cedar St., Roanoke Rapids, died Wednesday, July 28, 2010, at Guardian Care of Roanoke Rapids.
Mr. Allsbrook was born in Roanoke Rapids, the son of the late Prince Edward Allsbrook and Lydia Jarvis Allsbrook. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mable Mills Allsbrook, who died Dec. 22, 1992. He was a retired employee of J.P. Stevens & Co., and the last member of the Romancos, who played for the softball world’s championship.
He is survived by a daughter, Marcia Allsbrook Royal and her husband, Earl, of Roanoke Rapids; a son C.F. “Buzzy” Allsbrook Jr. and his wife, Ann, of Roanoke Rapids; eight grandchildren, Chester “Chuck” F. Allsbrook III, of Moore S.C., Brett M. Allsbrook, of Hendersonville, Bucky Allsbrook, of Roanoke Rapids, Maria Christiano, of Hendersonville, Bryan Adkins, of Glenshaw, PA., Corey Adkins, of Greenville, Kelly Hayes, of Chapel Hill, and Leanne Hayes, of Roanoke Rapids; nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m., Saturday, July 31, at Wrenn, Clarke & Hagan Funeral and Cremation Service in Roanoke Rapids, which is handling the arrangements, and other times at the home.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 1, at Rosemary Baptist Church, with Dr. Layne Wallace officiating. Interment will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids.
