Playwright, Actor. He began his career as an actor in England. In 1902 he wrote and produced (and co-starred in) the play "The Crossways" for Lilly Langtry. They brought the play to the United States, and he acted for two more years. As a playwright, he wrote or collaborated on more than thirty plays. In 1901 he wrote "The Great John Ganton," which introduced the now renowned actress Laurette Taylor. They married and he wrote ten plays for her, including the great success "Peg o' My Heart." He died of esophageal cancer. He lies unmarked in his wife's family plot.
