The funeral of S. E. Kuykendall, the father of Kerch Kuykendall, convicted in the district court of assault with the intent to kill Lee Glockner, was held this afternoon from Lampman's undertaking parlor and was marked by a feature that adds another sensation to the many woven about the arrest and conviction of Kuykendall and Lake and the death of the father of Kerch Kuykendall. After Rev. George W. Ray, the Congregational minister had preached an appropriate funeral address over the body of the deceased, Attorney Eugene Engley who was attending the services, stepped forward and with his right hand raised toward heaven, he said: "Justice will be done. The Pinkertons are responsible for your death. They murdered you, and your death shall be avenged or I shall follow you to the last resting place. I will see to it." This solemn oath taken in the presence of the dead, and before Rev. Mr. Ray and a roomful of people made a profound impression. After these words, Attorney Engley stepped aside and the son of the dead man Kerch Kuykendall, pronounced the same oath. The funeral cortege was led by a band playing "Home Sweet Home," and "Nearer My God to Thee." Friends and relatives of the dead man were in closed carriages. The son with drooped head was in an open carriage in which was seated Deputy Sheriff Squires. Attorney Engley and Godson occupied a seat in one of the carriages. The interment was at Mt. Pisgah cemetery.
