William Eulus Gann, 101, of Fort Smith, formerly of Dayton, passed away Monday, April 17, 2006. He was born June 18, 1904, in Mansfield to William J. and Annie Hanna Gann. He grew up in Mansfield with his two brothers and five sisters. After completing his education he taught school in Corning. Later, he was superintendent of the public schools in Texarkana. After retiring from the school system, he moved back to his home town area. He was pastor of Dayton Baptist Church for several years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Fort Smith and a Navy veteran of World War II. He loved to hunt, fish and tending his garden. He loved to grow lilies, iris, and day lilies.
Graveside service and burial will be 11 a.m. Thursday, April 20, 2006, at Union Ridge Cemetery in Dayton with the Rev. Charles Whedbee officiating under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith.
He is survived by two sisters, Yvona Cahoon of Fort Smith and Willye Holcomb of Little Rock; two nieces, Sandra Heldebrand of Dayton and Theresa Meredith of Broken Arrow, Okla.; two nephews, David Holcomb of Little Rock and Tim Holcomb of Denver; and a number of great-nieces and nephews.
The family will visit with friends today from 4 to 5 p.m. at Edwards Funeral Home in Fort Smith.
