Cecil Gordon Roberts Jr. died Saturday June 6th at his home after suffering from a plethora of life threatening illnesses for the last few decades. Highlights include epilepsy after falling from a tree as a child and internal paralysis resulting from a surgery required to fix the broken back he received after falling out of a window in college. Falls from windows in college happen quite frequently. You’d be surprised! He also suffered from congestive heart failure for the last couple of decades. This was after a several years of chain smoking, three heart attacks, and open heart surgery. Don’t smoke, kids! He even survived esophageal cancer back in 2007.

Hobbies included teasing people, looking pretty, making quilts, canning and pickin’ poke. He was also a pretty accomplished home cook. If you never had his homemade chicken and noodles, well, you really missed out.

Cecil was born to Agnes (Turnbull) and Cecil Roberts on June 24th 1940 in Wynona, Oklahoma. Or Pawhuska. We’re not really sure. He was one of 5 children and the only boy. Cecil and his wife, Johnnie Mae (Owens), celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on April 30th of this year. Cecil and Johnnie Mae raised 4 children in Wynona. He is survived by his wife, three daughters, Sindy Janssen of Wynona, Tricia Roth and husband John of State College, PA, and Victoria Joslin of Stillwater. Grandchildren include Stephanie and Robert Steven McCloud, Destiny and Chasity Roberts, Trevor and Devin Roth, Logan and Jena Joslin and great grandchildren Jaci Posey and Austin Ryan Kennedy. He is also survived by his sisters Margie Perigo, Barbara (Bobbi) Taylor and Mary Howell. Cecil was preceded in death by his son, William Roberts, his grandson, Austin McCloud, his parents, and his sister Evelyn Carter.

He graduated from Northeastern in Tahlequah and taught business in High Schools in Moline, Kansas and Wynona. He worked for many years at Baker Hughes in Hominy and also spent time working as a chef at Jane Phillips Hospital in Bartlesville.

A celebration of his life will be held on June 9th at the Antioch Christian Fellowship in Wynona at 10:30 AM.
