Funeral Set Tuesday for Sgt. Haverly
The funeral of First Sergeant Allan W. Haverly of Schenectady who was killed in action on Saipan July 9, 1944, will be held at the Courtland V. Andrew funeral home at 2:30 o'clock Tuesday afternoon. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. William C. Haverly. Born in Schenectady, he graduated from Van Antwerp school and was a member of Boy Scout Troop 31. He joined the National Guard in 1938 and joined the regular army at Fort McClellan, Alabama in 1940. He left for overseas duty in March 1942 and served in Hawaii until June 1944. A member of Company H. 105th Infantry, 27th Division, he was the recipient of the Purple Heart medal. President's citation, good conduct medal and Asiatic-Pacific ribbon, He was a member of Stanford Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, he is survived by a brother, Gerald E. Haverly, one aunt, Mrs. Florence Starkman, and several cousins, all of Schenectady. Relatives, friends, Gold Star Mothers, members of veterans organizations and Boy Scouts of America have been invited to attend the funeral. The funeral home will be open from 7 to 9 o'clock Monday night. Interment will be in Memory's Garden.
