Richard Eldon Jackson (69) returned to his heavenly home peacefully after a short courageous battle with liver cancer on June 4, 2015. He was born to Eva Ardell Farnworth and Leslie Earl Jackson on February 11, 1946 in Salt Lake City, UT. and raised in California, graduating from Chaffey High School in Ontario in 1963.

Richard was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served an LDS mission to the Central German Mission in Duesseldorf, Germany. After his mission he married his loving wife, Frances Jane Weatherill, in the Los Angeles Temple on July 12, 1968. Richard graduated from BYU in 1969 and began a life-long career as a Seminary and Institute teacher. He later earned his Master of Education degree from BYU. Richard and Fran began their lives together in Washington Terrace, Utah. Richard put his life on hold to serve his country in the Vietnam War. He loved his country and was willing to serve and sacrifice with patriotic devotion. While in Vietnam, he assisted in the translation of the Book of Mormon into Vietnamese. He later served on the City Council, and as the mayor of Washington Terrace.

Richard returned home safely from his military service. He and Fran made the most out of their 29 years, raising 6 children in a gospel-centered home. Fran died of cancer in 1997, leaving Richard a very lonely husband and father.

His heart found new love when he married his devoted wife, Holly Jane DeVuyst, in the Salt Lake City Temple on November 5, 1997. Richard and Holly completed the family, for a total of 10 children. They returned to California for a few years while Richard taught Institute in Riverside. After retirement, they settled in Syracuse, Utah to be close to family.

Richard was an energetic, fun, and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He loved family history, family gatherings, Disneyland, cruises, swimming, gardening, fishing, camping, and being with people. He was a photographer, taking thousands of pictures during his lifetime. He was a friend to all who knew him. He was always happy and had a wealth of knowledge on almost every subject.

Richard served faithfully in many church callings. He served twice as Bishop, counselor in two Stake Presidencies, Stake Mission President, various youth and Scouting callings, Gospel Doctrine Teacher, Nursery worker, High Priest Group Leader, Family History Consultant, and many others. At the time of his death, he was serving as the Executive Secretary to the Bishop of the Syracuse 3rd ward.

Richard left his family with so many wonderful memories, and he shared his deep and abiding love for his Savior and his testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ with all who knew him. During the last few weeks of his life, he made sure everyone knew how much he loved them. Holly took care of him lovingly around the clock until his death. We will be forever grateful to her.

Richard is survived by his wife, Holly; and a combined family of 10 children, Jeffrey (Camille) Jackson, Timothy (Katrina) Jackson, Jennifer (Jack) Xander, Sarah (Tyler) Scott, Jonathan (Sarah) Jackson, Amy (Travis) Shreeve, Tiffany (Austin) Farr, Benjamin Sandberg, Braden Jackson, and Matthew Jackson; he also leaves behind 22 grandchildren who adore him; siblings, Eva Watson, Jerry Jackson, Arthur "Kirby" Jackson, Betty Patterson, Leona Cowley, Donald Chantry, Gene Chantry, and Wanda Jordan.

Richard was preceded in death by his beloved wife Fran; his parents; his granddaughter, Whitney Shreeve; and his siblings, Vern Jackson, Clarence Jackson, Thomas Jackson, Donald Jackson, Shirley Prince, and Earl Jackson.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, June 13, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist's Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with the family on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the mortuary and on Saturday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m.
