Teresa June Gaines died Friday, June 16, 2006, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Monticello, Utah. Her granddaughter, Prairie Gaines, died in the automobile accident also. Services were held on Wednesday, June 21, 2006, at Northside Church of Christ in Temple, Texas, for the both of them. Burial for Terry will be in Bellwood Memorial Park in Temple, Texas. Burial for Prairie Gaines will be in College Station. Services for both were entrusted to Scanio-Harper Funeral Home in Temple.
Teresa was born on July 22, 1952 to J.D. and Betty (Copeland) McElyea. She was the third of four children born to this union. She attended schools in Odessa, graduating from Odessa High School in 1971. She married Robert Neil Gaines in Odessa at Sixth and Jackson Church of Christ. To this union was born two children: Robin Gaines and Trent Gaines.
Survivors include her husband, Robert of Holland, Texas; Robin Gaines of College Station and Trent Gaines of Brownwood, Texas. She is also survived by a sister, Judy Finley and husband, Marshall of Snyder; brother, Darrell McElyea and wife, Judy of Odessa; and a sister, Karen Henson and husband R.D. of Brownwood, Texas and numerous nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles and cousins who will miss her dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents, J.D. and Betty (Copeland) McElyea; grandparents, Fred and Hattie McElyea and Bryson and Mary Choat Copeland. Terry never met a stranger; she was a very loving, generous person that loved family and friends, but mostly her Lord Jesus Christ.
