Sam Houston Wood Jr, 51, of Laurel, MS died Friday, June 05, 2015 in Laurel, MS. He was born Wednesday, July 31, 1963 in Laurel, MS.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 09, 2015 at 10:00 AM at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Laurel in Laurel, MS. Burial will follow in Mill Creek Methodist Church Cemetery. Rev. Jimmy Holder and Rev. Scott Bounds will officiate. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Laurel in charge of arrangements. (601)649-3342

Sammy loved his family and his most recent grandchild, Rylee, was the light of his life. One of his favorite hobbies was racing, which he enjoyed sharing with his family and friends. He was a creative and funny person with a very outgoing personality. He enjoyed living a simple life surrounded by friends and family. He loved his animals and was an outspoken advocate for animal care.

He is preceded in death by his grandson, Cameron Parker Campbell; grandparents, Ben and Aline Doggett, and Dallas and Mary Alice Wood and brother-in-law, Robert Musgrove.

Survivors include his parents, Sam Houston Wood, Sr. and Georgia Ann Doggett Wood, Laurel, MS; daughters, Samantha Wood, Clinton, MS, and Rebecca Wood Campbell (Ryan), Hattiesburg, MS; sister, Sharmen Hill, Ellisville, MS; grandchildren, Allisyn Ryan Campbell and Christian Lake Campbell, Hattiesburg, MS and Rylee Ann Holloway, Clinton, MS; nieces, Cara Grace Hill, Ellisville, MS and Catie Hill, Ellisville, MS; nephews , Colton Hill, Hattiesburg, MS and Cayden Hill, Ellisville, MS; uncles, Ray Doggett (Pat), Laurel, MS and Darrell Doggett, Laurel, MS; aunt, Jewell Doggett , Laurel, MS and a host of friends and racing buddies.

Pallbearers will be Loyde Moss, Kendal Goodrich, Scooter Thornhill, Johnny Russell, Cayden Hill, Rodney Elmer and Ray Doggett. Colton Hill will serve as honorary pallbearer.

Visitation will be held Monday, June 08, 2015 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Laurel in Laurel.
