She was born in Atmore, Alabama. Ms. Brewer was the eldest of three children. She began her walk with Jesus at the age of 8. She grew up in Robertsdale, Alabama where she met her husband of 48 years, James L. Ratcliff. Ruby was a creative and talented homemaker who raised four children. She loved reading, tatting, sewing, quilting, cooking, gardening, canning and tackling the hardest crossword puzzles in the newspaper. She served her church in many capacities including serving on committees and teaching Sunday school for over 50 years. She was a member of Sherwood First Baptist Church. Later in life, after losing her husband, she remarried James A. Brewer. They were married for 15 years before his death in 2005. Everyone who knew her enjoyed her humor and spunky attitude. Her family will remember her for her sweet, gentle nature and the legacy she left as a disciple of Christ. In her Bible she wrote, “What you are is God’s gift to you. What you make of yourself is your gift to Him.”
Ms. Brewer was preceded in death by parents; her first husband: James L. Ratcliff; and her second husband: James A. Brewer.
She is survived 2 sons: James Earl Ratcliff and wife, Bettye, and Charles Randall Ratcliff, and his wife: Debbie, both of Texarkana, Texas; 2 daughters: Tamara Mantooth, and husband, Gary, of Charlotte, North Carolina and Rene’ Jeffers and her husband, John, of Little Rock, Arkansas; 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 1 sister: Ruth Wimberly, of Mobile, Alabama; 1 brother; Max Ward and his wife Judy, of Mobile, Alabama; other beloved relatives; many dear friends and her special caregivers at Cornerstone Retirement Center whom she dearly loved.
Funeral services were held at Roller-Owens Funeral Home, on Monday afternoon, June 8, 2015.
Graveside service will be immediately following at Rest Hills Memorial.
