A 1911 graduate of the US Naval Academy at Annapolis, he transferred to the Army Coast Artillery Corps in 1911 and served 35 years on active duty until he retired in 1946.
He was survived by his wife, Susan Louise Howard, and children, Mrs. Thomas Gill and Lt. Col Allan D. Newton, USAF (ret).
Col. and Mrs. Newton were living in Waveland, MS at the time of his death at Keesler Air Force Base, Biloxi, MS.
