Michael J. Hardiman, 76, president of the Hardiman -Woolworth company and one of the most prominent business men of this city, died at his home, 221 Ten Eyck street, this morning at 10 o'clock. Death came suddenly, after an illness of only one day, and was a great shock to his family and friends. He had been in good health until Thursday morning, when he contracted pneumonia which with heart trouble as a contributory cause, resulted in his death. Mr. Hardiman had been at business on Wednesday and when he returned to his home in the evening did not complain of ill-health. He retired at the usual hour, that he might be at the store in the morning. When he awoke he summoned Mrs. Hardiman and asked her to call a doctor, saying that he was ill. Dr. John A. Barnette was immediately summoned and pronounced Mr. Hardiman was suffering from pneumonia. During the day his condition grew worse and late in the afternoon the last sacraments of the Roman Catholic church were administered. Michael J. Hardiman was one of the best known residents of this city where he had actively been engaged in business for over a quarter of a century. Coming to this country a poor emgirant boy, hard work and earnest endeavor worked his way to a high place in the community. He was born in Ballansloe Ireland, Dec 26th 1850 a son of the late Michael and Katherine Reilly Hardiman.
