According to a History of Brooks Maine, it stated that he was a minister for about 17 years, July 1837-53. A new parsonage was purchased and the church florished. For whatever reason, as the end of his time came, he was not re-elected and denied residence in the parsonage. While in Brooks ME, he was also a teacher and a member of the school committee for many years.
Rev. Wiswall was the pastor from 1854 to 1884 at the Windham Hill United Congregational Church in Windham, Maine.
In May 1855, while Col. Tyng was in New York, Capt. Mowatt went to Portland with his armed ship, and while walking on the hill with his surgeion and the Rev. Mr. Wiswall, all three were made prisoners. Thankfully, all three were released the next morning.
