Pvt. Amos E Clark is the son of Jeremiah "Jerry" Clark and Artemisia Clark. Amos married Harriet D. Proctor on October 21,1857 (marriage performed by Justice of the Peace Moses Smiley). He is the father of Alice I., Eugene E., George P., and Eva M. Clark.
On 29th December 1863 at the age of 26 Amos voluntarily enlisted for 3 years into the 145th Co. "E" Pennsylvania Infantry in Waterford Pennsylvania. His civilian occupation was listed as "Carpenter". He was listed as having hazel eyes, brown hair, light complexion, and being 5'-10" tall.
During Amos Clark's enlistment in the spring of 1864 the 145th numbered over 700. In June of 1864 the 145th regiment was fighting trench warfare around Petersburg, Virginia. The Regiment participated in the battles of Ream's Station and Deep Bottom. By Fall of 1864 all of the 145th's Field Officer's were captured or killed. The few soldiers left were posted in the trenches and were almost constantly under fire. The 145th spent the rest of the fall and winter in the trenches doing picket and fatigue duty. By January of 1865 only 165 officers and men remained in the 145th Pennsylvania Infantry. The 145th Pennsylvania Infantry participated in the Grand Review on May 23, 1865 and mustered out of Federal Service May 31, 1865.
On May 31st 1865 Amos was transferred into the 53rd Co. "F" Pennsylvania Infantry. Amos then became very ill.
Physician Jonathon Whitely stated in his physicians report that "his disease was such as might result from hardship and exposure".
Amos was then discharged on the 19th of July 1865 in West Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Over the next 3 years Amos Clark's condition worsened until he was not able to care for himself.
Amos died March 13, 1868 in Union Township, Erie County Pennsylvania.
