Richard "Dick" Harold Phillips, 83, of Crossville, passed away Aug. 19, 2003. Funeral services were conducted Aug. 22 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Green Acres Memory Gardens. The Rev. Carleton Thackston officiated, with special music by Julia Burgess and Ann Looney.
Mr. Phillips was born March 1, 1920 in Brighton, TN, the son of Grover Clifford Phillips and Mamie DeWese Phillips.
He was a distributor for Texaco and a member of the First United Methodist Church. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. He went to Officers' Candidate School and was a captain in the U.S. Air Force. He went to Draughn Business College in Memphis, TN and helped build the first nine holes at Tansi Golf Course. He loved playing baseball when he was younger and loved all sports, including softball and golf.
Survivors include his wife, Zeola DeRossett Phillips of Crossville; sons and daughter-in-law, Bob and Sherry Phillips of Crossville and Steve Phillips of Marietta, GA; grandchildren, Chad Phillips of Dallas, TX and Tiffany Phillips of Crossville; and sisters, Evelyn Brumfield and Nell Melton, both of Memphis, TN.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Marion Phillips and Doris Meredith; and brother, Bob Phillips.
Pallbearers were Bill Boston, Roy Stone, Pete Stubbs, Chad Phillips, Paul McNew and Wes Currence.
The family requests memorials be made to the American Heart Association, 4708 Papermill Drive, Knoxville, TN 37909.
Bilbrey Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
