Edith (McClure) Higgins of McAlester died Thursday, June 4, 2015 in McAlester at the age of 77. Edith was born in Idabel, Oklahoma on October 27, 1937 to Absalom and Lela (Peters) McClure. She attended Wheelock Academy, Indian School for Girls from Kindergarten to the 8th Grade in Millerton, Oklahoma. She graduated from Haskel Indian High School in Lawrence, Kansas. She married Lawton Robert Higgins in Clarksville, Texas and retired from working in 1988. Edith attended the Church of the Nazarene in McAlester, Oklahoma. Her main hobby was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved reading books and she took pride in her Choctaw heritage. Edith never met a stranger and was always helping others. Survivors include daughters, Nelda McKenzie of McAlester, Jo and husband Roger Wolf of Alderson, OK, Christie and husband Brent Teeter of Enterprise, OK, Alissa Higgins and Donna Battles of Marlow, OK and Marissa and husband David Stark of McAlester, OK; son, Jerry Finley of Blanco, OK; Step Children, Thomas Higgins of Wyoming and Cindy Higgins of McAlester, OK; Grandchildren, Koitek McKenzie, Lori Kulih Kitini McKenzie, Randy Owens, Niki Hernandez, Christi Wolf, Dennis Owens, Roger Wolf, Jr., Jonathon Wolf, Mercedes Cruz, Jessie Finley, Emerald Finley, Dustin Finley, Kevin Witthar, Jerry Stark, Laci Johnson, and Summer Clark; 27 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Absalom McClure and Lela (Peters) McClure; husband, Lawton Higgins; brothers, James McClure, Salas McClure, Jim McClure; sister, Rose McClure Westmoreland; special niece and nephew, Shirley Harshaw and Lonnie Westmoreland; grandchildren, Dennis Allen Owens, Roger Lee Wolf, Jr., Owen Hatcher and Ian Hatcher. A Funeral Service will be held 10:00 a.m., Monday, June 8, 2015 at the Church of the Nazarene in McAlester, OK with Rev. J.T. Carnell officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery, McAlester, OK. Pallbearers will be: Grandsons, Jonathan Wolf, Jerry Dale Stark, Tristan Holden, AJ Owens, Dustin Finley, Kevin Witthar and great-grandson, Ramses Hernandez. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Randy Owens, David Stark, Roger Wolf, Justin Hatcher, Jerry Finley and Brent Teeter. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff, Amy Drake, Mica Windham, Carol Pemberton, Rebecca Johnson, Vicki Guess, Kathy Johnson and Melissa Williams of Heartland Hospice for the care and love shared with Edith and her family.
