Stephen Miles Barnes, age 52 and a resident of Diamondhead, died on Sunday, May 31, 2015, in Biloxi.
Stephen was born on September 25, 1962, in New Haven, Connecticut. He was a graduate of Long Beach High School and the University of Southern Mississippi. He also served in the United States Army from 1983 until 1986. He was employed as a Licensed Social Worker, a Case Manager and a Social Service Director. In his leisure time he enjoyed boating, fishing and a good game of dominoes.
He was preceded in death by his aunt, June Koelle Anderson of Old Lyme, CT and his cousin, Janice Anderson Hodas of East Berlin, CT.
He is survived by his parents, Miles Judson and Joyce Koelle Barnes of Diamondhead; his brother, Peter Douglas (Lynne) Barnes of Fort Mill, SC; his nephews, Douglas Miles Barnes of Eglin AFB in Florida and Nicholas Ray Barnes of Fort Mill, SC; his aunt, Joan Evers Taylor of New Smyrna Beach, FL; his uncle, George Anderson of Old Lyme, CT; cousins, Jeffrey Evers (Patricia), Judith Evers, and Thomas Evers (Denise), all of New Smyrna Beach, FL, Barbara Evers Nixson (Fred) of Disley, England and Beth Anderson (William) of Moodus, CT. He is also survived by his former spouse, Teresa Johnson Barnes of Gulfport, and by many other loving family members and friends.
A private graveside service will be held at Biloxi National Cemetery.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the doctors, nurses and hospice staff at the Biloxi VA for their exceptional care and compassion.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Biloxi VA Hospice Program 5626, Biloxi VA Voluntary Services, 400 Veterans Avenue, Biloxi, MS 39531.
