Wallace Richard Coleman was born May 3, 1906 in Glade, Phillips County, Kansas, to Martin Luther Coleman and Elsie Susan Ruchmann. He attended public school in Kansas, completing the 8th. grade. In 1922 At the age of 18, he and his father's family came to Utah and settled at South Canyon Point, North of Monticello. He drove truck for several years, hauling freight of all kinds in and out of Monticello and surrounding areas. He married Vera Aline Black on December 17, 1941. To this union were born four children: Verla Janice, Wallace Richard Jr., James Martin and Nancy Kay.
Mr. Coleman served in the armed forces for three years during World War II. After completing his service assignment in 1945, he returned to his homestead on South Canyon Point where he lived for two years. He then sold his farm and moved to Flora Vista NM. In 1948, he went to work for the Colorado Highway Department. He and his family moved to Colorado, and in 1955 settled in Dove Creek, where he made his home until the time of his death. Because of poor health he was forced to retire in 1968.
Wallace Richard Coleman passed away June 23rd. 1974, at Woods Cross Utah at the age of 68. He is survived by his wife Vera Coleman of Monticello and four children; Janice Newman of De Soto MO, Richard and James of Monticello and Nancy Kay Johnson of Blanding UT. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren.
Graveside services were held Friday, June 28, at 2 pm at the Monticello cemetery with Bishop Lisle Adams conducting. A male quartet sang "The Lord is my Shepherd". The opening prayer was given by Clement Johnson. Linda Lewis and Ruth Smith sang a duet entitled "Whispering Hope", and the dedicatory prayer was given by Don R. Barton.
