Kenny Summers enjoyed the outdoors, was always up for a good laugh and most of all, loved horses. He loved riding horses, breaking horses and often was found teaching his nieces and nephews how to ride.

Kenny died Saturday, June 24, 2006, at the age of 38, near Fort Rice, N.D., when he was struck by a car.

He was born Dec. 18, 1967 to Milton Summers and Wilma American Horse in Cannonball, N.D.

He grew up in Cannonball and attended the Solen School. In 2004, Kenny obtained his G.E.D. He worked for various companies including Labor Ready, Bismarck Sand and Gravel, UBC and Northern Livestock in Minot, N.D.

Survivors include a special friend, Tammy Hogue and son, Colton Lynn, Bismarck; two sons, Tyler Summers, Oregon and Dustin, Martin; two sisters, Charlene (Wayne) Iron Hawk, Cannonball and Twila (Sam) Rough Surface, Kenel; four brothers, Cecil (Cora) American Horse, Kaibeto, Ariz., Alton (Donna) Summers, Ft. Yates, N.D., Richard Summers, Bismarck, and Everette Full Bear, Cannonball; special nieces, April Summers and Rosanna Rough Surface; aunt, Belva Frank, Isabel; uncles, Ed Summers, Mobridge and George American Horse, Cannonball; eleven nieces; eighteen nephews; and many cousins.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Milton and Wilma; grandparents, Pat and Sydney Ramsey, Beatrice Grant, Ada and Milton Summers Sr., George and Lucy American Horse Sr. and Elma Mentz; brother, Collin Summers; sisters, Anita Summers and Barbara Summers; niece, Kara Iron Hawk; and nephews, Royce and Kim Iron Hawk.

Mike Faith, Jake Eagle, Dwaine Eagle, Homer Rough Surface, Tony Eagle and Delyle Left Hand will serve as casketbearers.

Honorary casketbearers include Robert and Bobbi Aune, Clayton and Faye Left Hand, Robby Rough Surface and family, Alberta Rough Surface, Clara and Rox Oxford, Melvin Fish Little Bear, Pat and Patty Kelly, Ted Eagle and family, Barbara and Bernadine Eagle, Arlen Lee, Glen Lee, Scott Dupree, Kurt Johnson, Don and Virginia Cook, Andy and Jackie Grey, Duke and Carol Dupree, Alverda Chopper Summers, Harvey Good Left, Jr., Darvin Good Left, Denver Baker, Jim Diserly, Gary Walking Elk and family, Ricky DeHorse and Charles Holy Bear, Sr.

The funeral service for Kenny will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at the Cannonball Youth Center. Rev. Evans and Ione Elk, Rev. Lindsey Dwarf and Pastor Weyland American Horse will be officiating. A burial ceremony will be held at 11:30 a.m., Friday, at the St. James Episcopal Church Cemetery in Cannonball. Oster Funeral Home of Mobridge have made the arrangements. An all-night wake service will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday at the youth center. Family and friends will gather at 5 p.m. at the Cannonball Pit Stop to follow the procession.
