John P. Rego, Sr., husband of Eugenia (Rose) Rego, died at Morton Hospital on June 2, 2015. He was 84. Born in Fall River, he was the son of the late Joao and Justine (Furtado) Rego. Mr. Rego was raised in Somerset and served in the US Army with the 82nd Airborne as a paratrooper during the Korean Conflict. Employed as a custodian at Bristol-Plymouth Regional Technical School for twenty years, he was also a substitute teacher in the Electrical Department at the school. Many years prior, he was employed for over thirty years by Reed & Barton Silversmiths. John enjoyed gardening, fishing, casinos, traveling, wintering in Florida and spending time with his family. A member of the Portuguese American Civic Club and St. Peters Society, he was a forty-three year member of AA. In addition to his wife of sixty-five years, he is survived by three sons, John Jack Rego, Jr. and his wife Joyce of Raynham, Jan P. Rego and his wife Karen of Taunton, and Michael J. Rego and his partner James of San Francisco, CA; three daughters, Sharon J. Weatherford and her husband David of Taunton, Dorene A. Bridges and her husband William of Lithia, FL and Michele M. Adkins and her husband Keith of East Taunton; eighteen grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; his dog, Lilly; and many nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Joseph Rego, Helen Hall, and Mary Teves. His funeral will be held from the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Taunton on Monday, June 8th at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at Annunciation of The Lord Church at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Calling Hours will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, June 7th from 3 to 6 p.m. Burial will be private at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital , 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or to a charity of ones choice. www.silvafuneral home.com.
