Marcia Alice Costello was born October 19, 1931 to James Vincent and Florence (Neuhaus) Costello in Davenport, IA. On September 8, 1953 she entered the Congregation of the Humility of Mary, professing vows on July 26, 1956. She received a BA in Sociology from Marycrest College and an MA in American History from St. Louis University.
Her ministry of teaching included elementary schools at St. Patrick, Ottumwa, St. Mary, Centerville and Our Lady of Lourdes, Bettendorf, IA. She taught high school in Phoenix, AZ, Aquinas, Fort Madison, IA and Assumption, Davenport, IA. She worked in the Development offices of Marycrest and Teikyo Marycrest University. From 1995-2003, she was Director of Communications for the Congregation of the Humility of Mary. After retirement, she served as the volunteer diocesan coordinator of the Retirement Fund for Religious.
During her life, most of which was lived in Davenport, Sister Marcia was involved in some aspect of communication and considered her life ministry as a form of communication.
In 2012 she moved to the Kahl Home, Davenport, IA, where she resided until her death.
Sister Marcia was preceded in death by her parents and brothers James and Donald; a nephew James Costello, III; and a niece Rebecca Costello Hynek. She is survived by nine nieces and nephews and many great nieces and nephews as well as the Sisters and Associates of her CHM community. Memorials may be made to the Sisters of the Humility of Mary.
