Jeanne was born in San Francisco, Calif., to Edward and Mary Louise White. 11 years later she moved to Placerville when Mary took a job teaching at Missouri Flat School. While attending El Dorado High School, Jeanne used a cake baked in Home Economics to lure John to a party at the First Baptist Church, where, after graduating in 1958, the two would marry the following summer in 1959.
Jeanne attended Sierra College, and later, while she and John built their family, American River College, where she went on to obtain a degree in accounting. During intermittent semesters and summers off she also took seasonal work, packing fruit at Boa-Vista Orchards in Apple Hill. After her sons were through high school, she became a certified travel agent along with her husband, beginning a new career and thus developing a thirst for worldwide travel. Specialists in the cruise industry, they went on to make some 35 worldwide cruises. After retiring they lived three winters in one of their favorite destinations, Costa Del Sol in Spain. In later years, preferring to stay stateside, they built a second home in southern Arizona, where they divided their residency with Garden Valley.
Jeanne was a devout Christian who was active in the church her entire life. With the advent of the Internet she also became active in social networking and enjoyed family and friends through Facebook. She enjoyed computer games on her smartphone and is still in the top 10 on Quiz Up for the Bible.
Jeanne is survived by her husband, John; her sons, Ed (and his wife Jo) and Tony; and her grandchildren, Chelsea and Johnny. She was preceded in death by her second son, Curt.
Services will be held at House of Prayer, 7901 CA-193 in Garden Valley, at 1 p.m., on June 13. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the American Cancer Society."
