WALTER LOGAN CARTER, AUTOMOTIVE SPECIALIST
Walter Logan Carter, 67, automotive specialist, died Sunday night after a brief illness at his home, 1223 Gallatin street N.W.
Mr. Carter was born in Dorsey, Md., and came to this city at an early age with his parents. He graduated from the old Business High School and for a time was a bookkeeper with the Littleford & Alvord express firm.
In 1909 he became associated with his brothers Gary and Frank Carter in the Carter Motor Car Co., at Hyattsville, Md., where they produced the Carter twin-engine motor and the "Washington" automobile.
At the outbreak of World War I he was appointed housing expediter by the Navy Department and assigned to the Navy Yard here.
In World War II he served as an automotive instructor at Camp Lee, Va., later as automotive specialist with the War Production Board and the Maritime Commission.
Mr. Carter is survived by a son, Philip Joseph Carter; five daughters, Mrs. Hubert Bunyea, Mrs. William Sohr, Mrs. Claude P. Amidon and Mrs. William Logan of this city; Mrs. James Lombardo, Wilmington, Del., and 13 grandchildren.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. tomorrow at Hanlon's Funeral Home, 3831 Georgia avenue N.W. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
