Carolyn Denman Leonard, age 87 of Winchester, passed away Saturday April 5, 2014. A native of Walseka, GA. She traveled the world over with her husband during his military career and served as an educator during those years. She and her family settled in Winchester, where she taught 4th Grade at the Good Shepard School for ten years. She planned, organized and directed the Women’s Auxiliary at the Methodist Hospital. She also served on the hospital board for ten years, eight of which were in the capacity of vice-chair. She was a long-time member of the Winchester First United Methodist Church. She will be remembered by many as a great educator who had wide-ranging impact on so many students during her career. Mrs. Leonard is preceded in death by her mother, Lela Cox Leonard and her father, Elmer Hoyle Denman; her husband of 49 years, Scott Leonard. She is survived by her daughter, Stephanie C. (Peter) Treutlein of Murfreesboro, TN.; sons Scott E. (Carolyn) Leonard lll of Ft. Worth, TX. and Stuart E. Leonard of Winchester, TN.; sisters, Mary Ruth Hankins of Nashville, TN., Rachel Denman of Austin, TX., Rosalyn (Darrell) Laremore also of Austin, TX., and Kay (Don) Payne of Greeneville, TN.; brothers, Leland (Jeanette) Denman Winchester, TN., James (Pat) Denman of McKenzie, TN. and David (Sena) Denman of Dyersburg, TN; grandchildren, Elizabeth (Kyle) Pyron, Sarah Treutlein and Catherine (Mark)Becker; great-grandchildren, Chloe & Emma Pyron, Ethan Treutlein, and Andrew Becker. The funeral service will be conducted from the chapel of Watson-North Funeral Home at 12 noon on Tuesday April 8, 2014. Interment will follow at Franklin Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Leland, James and David Denman, Peter and Ethan Treutlein and Jeff Davis. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 10 a.m. until time of service.
