Born to Earl Richard and Caroline Eliza Horn Russell, he graduated from Miami High School in 1942. He was an employee of the Miami Commercial Copper Company and the Inspiration Consolidated Copper Company. He received his wings at Williams Field and served overseas with the 8th Air Force. He was killed in a crash on Luzon in the Philippines. He was survived by his parents; four brothers, Jerry and Carl of Miami, and Earl and Robert of Ray; three sisters, Mrs. Gay Lathon and Linda and Dixie Russell, all of Miami; and his grandfather, Ben Hicks.
