Roger Wayne Walters, 67, of Lufkin died Tuesday, June 2, 2015 in a local hospital. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Carroway Funeral Home.

Mr. Walters was born February 29, 1948 in Laurel, Mississippi to (the late) William and Evie (Pitts) Walters. He came to Texas in 1971 and to Lufkin in 1977.

Mr. Walters spent several years traveling in the Oilfield Seismography industry and in 2005 he retired from Southside Auto Parts in Lufkin. He enjoyed playing with his grandkids, Texas Hold ‘Em, Gin Rummy, and 42. He was known as a conversationalist and loved to tell jokes. Mr. Walters was a member of the Bethlehem United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Julia Walters; daughter, Stephanie Smith; daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Ricky Rawls; son, Chris Walters; granddaughters, Kamryn Dowdy, Kairi Smith, Natalie Rawls; grandsons, Ryan Rawls and Logan Dowdy; brother and sister-in-law, Billy and Shirley Walters; sister and brother-in-law, Wanda and Paul Little; lifelong best friend, Sammy Byrd; a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives; special friends and his Poker Buddies.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Wendel Walters; and brother-in-law, Don Cox.
