As noted on the Hendricks County death certificate for "M.R. Highland," he died in Union Twp. at age 5. His father, who had died a few months earlier in May, is given as Denman. The cause of death for Roy was scarlet fever. The date on the certificate is October 29, one day later than that on marker. The certifying physician was O.B. Johnson, of Lizton. (note: On various records, the surnames of Hiland and Highland were both commonly used by members of the same family.)
