Services for Pirtle "Doc" Houston Guy, 101, of Marshall, will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, April 13, 2006 at Restland Funeral Home in Dallas. Local arrangements are by Sullivan-Heaster Funeral Home from 3-4 p.m., Tuesday, April 11, 2006. Mr. Guy died April 10, 2006, in Marshall. He was born May 24, 1904 in Hopkins County. Mr. Guy married Thelma Ann Barton in 1924. After 74 years of marriage she preceded him in death in 1998. They were members of First United Methodist Church of Irving, Texas. Since moving to Marshall in 2000, Mr. Guy had been a member of the First United Methodist Church in Marshall. In Marshall Doc was active in the Marshall Regional Medical Center Auxiliary as a Red Rover, participated in vintage style shows and golden era follies. He enjoyed a 33 year career with Gulf Oil Corporation before retiring in 1961. Following retirement he served as a Deputy Constable for 15 years, Court Bailiff for 5 years, and a bank security guard for 5 years. During his retirement years he was active in many civic organizations. In addition to an active life of employment and community service, Pirtle was deeply involved in fraternal organizations. He served over 50 years in the Oak Cliff Masonic Lodge, Royal Arch Masons, Oak Cliff Council, Dallas Tancred Commanadery Knights Templar, Irving Chapter Order of the Eastern Star and worked with the Order of the Rainbow for Girls on a local and state level.
