Irene or "Irena" was born in Worth County, MO to Valentine Branson and Susanna East. She died in Mariposa Co., CA.

She and her half-brother, Isaac Branson, followed their cousin, John Sevier Branson, to Ca. in search of gold during the Civil War. Her husband, William Wyatt Scott, obtained a leave-of-absence from the Union Army so that he could relocate the family in the Far West.

The household became part of a large wagon train that included many Bransons, which were leaving Missouri for the first time.

Near the Platte River in Nebraska Territory, William Scott was killed by lightning. Irena was also badly injured, but she survived and gave birth to a son in Oregon.

She went on to live a long life and was one of the founders of Mariposa County.

Irena is buried next to her cousin John in the Oddfellows Cemetery, in Hornitos, CA.
