His full name is Alonzo Lafayette Baker, nickname Lon. Born Feb 12 1847 in Fairview,Fulton,Illinois. Died March,1927 in Mt. View, Santa Clara, California. Was a pioneer in western Colorado.
A. L. Baker, Well Known Here, Dies
HEALDSBURG, Dec. 1. (Special to Press Democrat) - Word was received here today of the death in Mountain View of A. L. Baker, 82, a veteran of the Civil War and former well-known resident of this city. Baker succumbed on Tuesday evening following an illness of several years. Funeral services were conducted yesterday in Mountain View by the American Legion with burial there.
Baker was born in Ohio February 12, 1846, and when only a boy enlisted with the 156th Illinois Infantry, acting as substitute for another member of the family who was drafted.
Most of his life was spent in San Luis Valley, Colorado. He left here eight years ago to reside in Mountain View. Mrs. Baker died while here. Surviving are four children, Mrs. Alma McTibbin, Mrs. Anna Ireland and A. L. Baker, Jr., of Mountain View, and Mrs. Nellie Struproup of Denver, Colorado.
