Wilson and son William joined the Confederate army on Feb 23 1863 for a bounty of $50. They served in Co. "C" of the 19th La. Regt. from Louisiana in the Civil War. They were captured between Vicksburg and Jackson Miss. on July 17, 1863, transferred to Snyder's bluff where they were put on a train and shipped north. They were sent to prison in Fort Morton, Indiana. By November 18, 1863, according to the report of the confederate inspector, there were 6,300 in confinement at Camp Morton which was designed for 3,00. Many prisoners lay on the damp ground without any protection of any sort and there was much suffering during the winter. Wilson died on 29 October 1863, presumably from pneumonia.
