Freddie was the child of John Amiel (sometimes Emil) Barber and Sophia Leptein, married in 1885. Freddie was born July 4, 1886 and died a year later of 'cholera Infantum', a gastric intestinal disorder. It appears through newspaper articles that Amiel left Denison in 1888 while Sophia stayed and became a seamstress. Amiel later married Dora, Sophia's sister, in 1888 and Sophia married Rudolph Lehfeldt in 1894.
