Agnes Sophia Knudsvig, 85, a Williston resident formerly of Divide County, passed away Friday afternoon, Aug. 22, 2008, at the Mercy Medical Center in Williston.
Her funeral will be celebrated Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2008, at 11 a.m., at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Williston. The Rev. April Peterson will officiate and interment will follow in Riverview Cemetery.
Agnes Sophia Westlie was born Sept. 10, 1922, to Peter and Christine (Knutson) Westlie on the family farm in Hawkeye Township in Divide County, near Crosby, N.D.
On Dec. 28, 1922, she was baptized in the Lutheran faith and was confirmed at Concordia Lutheran Church on May 12, 1940.
On Oct. 21, 1944, Agnes married Clarence Knudsvig in Plentywood, Montana.
Agnes worked at the shipyard in Portland, Ore., the hospital in Crosby, and spent many years on the farm in Divide County. After moving to Williston in 1959, she worked twenty-five years at Woolworths in Williston.
She loved dancing, playing pinochle, and most of all-spending time with her family and friends.
For many years, Agnes was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church and a former member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
Agnes is survived by a son, Robert Westlie, and his wife, Kathy of Minot; a daughter, Carol Paradies, and her husband, Claus of Williston; five grandchildren, Randy Westlie, and his wife, Stephanie, of Williston, Kristie Smith, and her husband, Darin of Billings, Melissa Newbury, and her husband, Tracy, of Minot, Casey Paradies of New York City, and Russell Ninke, and his wife, Carrie, of Big Lake, Minnesota; eight great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters-in-law, Delila Lindsey, and her husband, Leland of Crosby and Delores Aaberg of Noonan; and a brother-in-law, Arnold Johnson of Alamo.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence on July 8, 2008; her parents; brothers, Alvin Westlie, Charles Berg, Elmer Berg, Lester Aaberg; and sisters, Amy Henfer, Clara Haugenoe, Olga Hjerleid and Stella Anderson.
