Jerry Lynn Payne, 53, a resident of South Avenue, Harrisonburg, and formerly of Bridgewater, died December 19, 2003, from complications from diabetes. He had been in failing health for five years.
Mr. Payne was born on Oct. 24, 1950, in Rockingham County, and was a son of Beulah Simmons Payne of Harrisonburg and the late Paul William Payne. He lived the majority of his life in the Bridgewater area.
He spent most of his life working in the food industry. He prepared catered buffets, made wedding cakes and other special foods. Locally he worked at W.T. Grants and the Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community. He had also worked at the Biltmore Restaurants in Phoenix, Ariz. and Pinehurst, N.C.
Surviving in addition to his mother, are a sister, Linda Nelson, Harrisonburg and her husband Roger; a brother, Phillip Wayne Payne, Smyrna, Ga. and his wife Sherry; aunts and uncle, Bonnie Pitsenbarger, Harrisonburg, Blanche Dean, Bridgewater, Granville and Norma Nelson, Franklin, W.Va., Mary Virginia Payne, Luray; nephews, Derek Payne, Smyrna, Ga., Bryan M. Nelson and wife, Katrina, Shenandoah; niece, Kim Nelson Taylor and husband, Steve, Kernersville, N.C.
The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 7 until 8 at the McMullen Funeral Home, Harrisonburg. Friends may also call at the home of his family, 69 Emery Street, Harrisonburg, at any time.
The body was cremated and burial will be private.
