John D. Derrick Sr., 77, of Charleston, died Wednesday, May 27, 2015. John was born in Charleston on May 31, 1937 to the late Elbin Cecil and Lucy Irene Derrick. He was also preceded in death by his brother, James Elbin Derrick; two sisters, Norma Ragan and Arbutus "Boots" Bratton; and one grandson, Jon Franklin Derrick.

He graduated from Stonewall Jackson High School in 1955. He was a Marine Corps veteran, obtaining the rank of sergeant. He retired from FMC Corporation. He enjoyed fishing, bowling and was an avid WVU sports fan.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 57 years, Eleanor Fadeley Derrick; sons, John D. Jr and Elbin Lynn; daughters, Carol Ann Mollohan, Kris L. Smith and Nancy C. Derrick; sisters, Nancy Wickline and Margaret "Peggy" Eiffert; 12 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

A memorial and visitation celebrating John's life will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday, June 5, at Bartlett-Burdette-Cox Funeral Home, 513 Tennessee Ave., Charleston, WV 25302. He will receive military honors and be interred at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery, 130 Academy Drive, Dunbar, WV 25064.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery.
