Ethel Josephine Alverson Robbins, 93, widow of Claude Carroll Robbins, died Sunday, May 31, 2015, at Georgetown County Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Robbins was born September 17, 1921, in New Prospect, South Carolina a daughter of the late Joe Alverson and Cora L. Alverson.
She grew up in New Prospect and graduated from Ashville Teachers College in North Carolina. She retired after many years of teaching for Aiken County Schools. While in Aiken, Mrs. Robbins was an active member of Aiken First Baptist Church. She and her husband moved to Georgetown eleven years ago, and were faithful members of First Baptist Church of Georgetown. Mrs. Robbins enjoyed gardening, sewing, playing the piano, and reading.
She was survived by a son, Claude Carroll Robins II of Smyrna, Tennessee; three daughters, Teresa R. Hobbs of Pawleys Island, Karen R. Murphy of Charlotte, NC, and Gail R. (Michael) Hendriks of Georgetown; a sister, the Rev. Betty Alverson of Marietta, SC; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Graveside services, directed by Mayer Funeral Home, were 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 13, 2015, in Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Dr. Ted A. Sherrill officiated.
