Miss Amy Elizabeth Horton, age 27, of Tallapoosa, passed away June 2, 2015, at Atlanta Medical Center after succombing to injuries sustained as a passenger of a single vehicle accident in Carroll County.

She was born November 3, 1987 in Carrollton, GA.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Linda Lyner (Mimaw) and Gerald Lyner (Pe-paw).

Amy was a star basketball player for the Georgia Dream Team club team and also at Haralson County High School, where she graduated in 2006. As a high school senior, she was ranked third in the nation for scoring. She was a three-time All-State player and named All-American MVP. Amy also played basketball as a forward for UCLA and Georgia Tech from 2006-2008.

Amy lived a life that was abundant with athletic achievement and prowess. She was named to various All American teams throughout her career including Adidas, McDonalds, and Street and Smith. She was interviewed and published in Slam magazine in 2006 as well as having been pictured with the top collegiate players in the country on the cover of Sports Illustrated in the 2007 NCAA preview.

Amy was recognized at the state level having been selected as an all state player for all four years of high school.

Her jersey hangs in the Haralson County High School and in the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame in the Ring of Honor in Knoxville, Tennessee.

Amy always loved and appreciated the tremendous support she received from her community and felt truly blessed to forevermore be REBEL #12!

An entry from Amy's journal reads, “Dear Heavenly Father, I come to you in prayer tonight to ask for strength, so that I may overcome these obstacles I face and glorify you. I pray you will heal me and open doors so that I may receive whatever treatment you will me to have.”

“For he hath said, I will never forsake you.” Hebrews:13-5.

She read daily from Oswald Chamber's My Utmost for His Highest, “So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.” June 4th, 2015.

She is survived by her father and mother; and a twin brother and sister.

Her family will receive friends at Rehoboth Christian Center from 3:00 – 4:00 PM, Sunday, June 7, 2015.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, June 7, 2015 at 4:00 PM from Rehoboth Christian Center with Bishop Darrell Gooden officiating. Eulogy will be given by Coach Randy Patterson. Music will be provided by Pam Sanders and Keala Moreen.
