Franklin Duane Scott, of Wilmington, died Monday, June 1, at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice Care Center.
Frank “Scotty” was born November 18th, 1932 to Mabel and Marion Scott in Detroit Lakes, MN., and grew up in Fargo, ND. He enlisted in the US Army at the age of 17, and served in the 82nd Airborne at Fort Bragg, NC. It was there that he met the love of his life, Betty Cook Scott, deceased. Upon his discharge from the army, Frank and Betty spent one winter in Fargo, and chose to call North Carolina home. Frank retired from Seaboard Coastline Railroad, but never one to slow down, he remained active in the Lions Club, St. John's Masonic Lodge, bowling, fishing, and taking care of his yard. Frank especially loved being active in his community and lending a hand wherever he could. He cherished his many friends and neighbors in Olde Point and Olde Camden.
Frank fought a valiant battle with cancer to the very end. Left to cherish his memory are his sons; Kenneth and wife Bonnie of Winnabow, and Bill and wife Beth of Wilmington, grandchildren; Erin Trask and husband Allen of Wilmington, Allison Scott of Raleigh, Bailey Anthony and husband Braxton of Raleigh, Chad Scott of Winnabow, Kyle Scott of Winnabow, and great grandchildren; Nelson Trask of Wilmington and Grayson Nowack of Denver, IA . Also surviving are brother Daniel and wife Yvonne of Minneapolis, MN, sisters Jeanne Mallarian of Dana Point, CA, and Linda Nelson and husband Ralph of Columbia Heights, MN., and sisters-in-law; Louise Willis of Wilmington, and Betty Scott of Minneapolis, MN., as well as many beloved in-laws and friends. Frank was predeceased by his parents, and brothers; Willard and Gerald.
The family will receive friends at Andrews Valley Chapel on Wednesday, June 3 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. A graveside service will be held at Oleander Memorial Gardens at noon on Thursday, June 4, 2015.
