Ellen married John Jordan (1805 Ireland - 1892 Goodhue Co., MN) about Nov. 1827 in Dublin. We know her maiden name was Millen. There is a record of an adult baptism of Ellen Millen, daughter of Sarah Button and William Millen, at St. Catherine's Church in Dublin on 1 July 1829 but this is probably not our Ellen, though her first child Patrick was baptized there by the same cleric (the Rev. Mr. Currans) in November of that year. Her grand-daughter much later stated that her own great grandmother's name was Marguerite Jackson.
Ellen and John had ten children: Patrick (1829- before 1870), John (b. Christmas day 1831 and died young), John M. (1834-1917), Nathaniel (1838-1862), William E. (1839-1862), Ellen (1841-1916), Margaret Mary (Maggie) (1845-1879), Henry T. (1848-1866), Mary Jane (1850-1930), and Minnesota (1859). Their first two (of 9) children were born in Ireland, the next 3 in England, the three next in Haverstraw NY and the last in MN. See profiles of her daughter Ellen and her husband John Jordan for descriptions of the family removes.
Eleanor went by several nicknames, including Nellie, but most commonly was called Ellen. Her husband called her Ella. She died of "apoplexy," or stroke. Her death notice appeared in the Goodhue Co Republican on 27 Oct 1870 pg 4 col. 4. In it, her husband, wrote:
"For forty years and nearly three,
We lived in peace and unity;
But death, oh death, with his sudden darts,
Has separated those fond hearts."
I am searching for any other records that detail her life and death and would greatly appreciate any information Findagrave readers may have.
