CAMBRIDGE -- George Martin Colling, 84, died Tuesday (June 20, 2006) at the Cambridge Manor.
He was born on Aug. 20, 1921, at McCook to Bernard N. and Helen (Kennedy) Colling. He attended rural school District 47 southeast of McCook
He entered the U.S. Navy on July 28, 1942, where he served aboard the No. 680 Sub-Chaser off the east coast of the United States during World War II. He served as the ship's cook. He was honorably discharged on Dec. 4, 1945. After his discharge, he returned to Frontier County where he farmed until his retirement.
George was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Bernard and Helen Colling; five brothers, Harlan and wife, Rosemary, Jerald, Frank, Gene, and John Colling; one sister, Helen and her husband, Fred Martin; and two brothers-in-law, Anton Blume and Raymond Ritter.
Survivors include his two brothers, Richard Colling and wife, Alfreda, and Joseph Colling and wife, Eileen, all of McCook; two sisters, Catherine Blume of McCook and Bernadine Ritter of Russell, KS; two sisters-in-law, Mary Colling of McCook and Dorothy Colling of Omaha.
Rosary will be today at 7 p.m. at Carpenter Breland Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with Father Paul Colling officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Visitation will be today until time of rosary at the funeral home.
