Robert served as a Second Lieutenant & Co-Pilot on B-24H #42-52105, 714th Bomber Squadron, 448th Bomber Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Lucas County, Ohio prior to the war.

B-24H #42-52105 took off from Seething, England on a bombing mission over Osnabruck, Germany. While over the target they were hit by enemy ground flak and then attacked by multiple fighter planes. They eventually crashed into the North Sea due to severe damage during the war.

Robert was "Killed In Action" in this crash.

He was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.
