In 1748 he had been appointed the 'afternoon preacher' at Longacre Chapel by the bishop of London, and in the mid-1750s he was assisting at His Majesty's Chapel of the Savoy. By 1755 Frances and John may have already had a daughter who, according to the British Magazine, died in infancy. John Moore Brooke, their other child, was born in London on 10 June 1757.
