I am deeply saddened to announce that after a short illness and just 14 days after turning 115, Antonia Gerena Rivera, the last living Floridian born in the 19th century, who I interviewed as part of an independent journalism project, has died. She will be deeply missed by me, Gina, and her friends and family. Please pray for her and her family. I would also like to ask anyone who sees this to spread the word about a Congressional resolution currently being proposed by Illeana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL) to honor Mrs. Gerena Rivera, in order for it to gain the support that it needs in order for it to be passed. We would really appreciate it.
God Bless You All.

RIP 05/19/1900

Ven a mi tierra de flores
a recibir la caricia
de un sol que es todo fulgoso
y oirás cantar con delicia
a los libres ruiseñores.
