HANNIBAL - Herbert H. Rodgers, 86, of Hannibal, died at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2007, at his home. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, at the James O'Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal. Elder Russell Howell and Elder Ronald Howell will officiate. Burial with full military rites by Emmette J. Shields American Legion Post No. 55 will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Hannibal. Click here to visit James O'Donnell Funeral Home's web site.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, Nov. 2, at the James O'Donnell Funeral Home.
Mr. Rodgers was born March 17, 1921, in Ilasco, to Otto and MaudieHaynes Rodgers.
He was married to Helen E. Golianon Aug. 13, 1945, in New London. She preceded him in death April 5, 2006.
Survivors include two sons, Herbert J. Rodgers (Pamela) of Hannibal and Earl E. Rodgers (Roberta) of Hannibal; one daughter, Jacqueline Edwards (Steve) of Hannibal; three sisters, Mabel Deveny of Quincy, Ill., Irene Christal of Hannibal and Tresa Harris of Hannibal; nine grandchildren, Herbert W. Rodgers (Joni), Michael E. Rodgers (Kathy), Cynthia Pickett, Crystal Rosser, Russell W. Rosser Jr. (Patricia), Jatanna Brink (Trenton), Scott Rodgers,Jeramie Edwards and Kari Anne Edwards; 19 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Wayne Rodgers; and one great-granddaughter, Bretta Pickett.
Mr. Rodgers was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during World War II.He retired after 40 years of service with the Union Sheet Metal Workers Local No. 36 in St. Louis. He enjoyed baseball, especially the Los Angeles Dodgers. He also enjoyed gardening and spending time with his grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to Blessing Hospice of Hannibal, in care of the James O'Donnell Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Scott Rodgers, Herbert W. Rodgers, Russell W. Rodgers Jr., Michael E. Rodgers Jr., Michael E. Rodgers Sr., Crystal Rosser, Steven W. Rodgers, Trenton Brink and Kyle Rodgers.
Honorary pallbearers will be Mr. Rodgers' special grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
