Oakney Isabelle (Adams) Gay, 94, of Danville, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 28, 2015.

Oakney was a 52-year resident on Grant Street in Danville, with recent stays at Autumn Fields in Hoopeston and Gardenview Manor in Tilton.

Oakney was born on Aug. 12, 1920 in Yoder, Indiana, the daughter of the late Jesse James and Minnie Mae (Harper) Adams. She graduated from Danville High School and attended Brown’s Business College. She later worked for many years, and retired from General Electric.

Oakney married the late Robert Edward Gay in Danville on Oct. 15, 1946 in Danville. Robert passed away in 1984. She was also preceded by three daughters, infant Judith Ann Gay, Sally L. Gay and Shirley J. (Marvin) Combs.

She leaves behind two granddaughters, Sue (Jody) Burton and Kristen (Michael) Coan; four great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Mary Adams-Reed and Virginia Combs, longtime family friend who visited Oakney often.

She was a long-time member of Old Union Christian Church, which later became CrossRoads Christian Church of Danville.
