Mrs. Cantrell lived 105 years before her death here January 20
Pauline Marie Isabell “Icebee” Cantrell, 105, died January 20 at Letcher Manor Nursing Home in Whitesburg.
Born in Rockwood, Tenn., of Cherokee decent, she was the widow of Atchie Ono and the mother of the late Harold Rutherford Cantrell, Jack Delano Cantrell, Joseph Kenneth “Kenny” Cantrell, and Thelma Ruth Anderson.
She had worked in Chattanooga, Tenn., in a hosiery mill, and had worked doing domestic duties for people in the community to help support her family due to the chronic illness of her husband.
In her senior years she was active in the Ben Caudill Sons of Confederate Veterans Camp with her son, Kenny, where she wore Confederate dress.
She was named an honorary member of the Ben Caudill #1629 SCV Camp as well as being the recipient of the Matron of Honor and lifetime achievement awards.
Other honors she received were being named an honorary deputy sheriff by the Letcher County Sheriff ’s Department, and Letcher County Fiscal Court proclaimed October 3, 2009, the Pauline Icebee Cantrell Day.
She is survived by two daughters, Regina Carol Carmony and husband Jesse of Hopewell, Va., and Alice Faye Jowers and husband Frank of Hanahan, S.C.; 12 grandchildren, 14 greatgrandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren; and friend and caregiver, Connie Mullins.
Funeral services were held January 23, in Neon. Burial was in Whitaker Cemetery at Seco.
