Alberta Jean York, 83, of Sidney, passed away Friday, June 17, 2016, at 1:15 p.m. at Dorothy Love surrounded by her family.

She was born on March 22, 1933, in Whitley City, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Grover and Sophia (Laws) Moses. On April 6, 1957, she married her husband of 52 years, John Henry York, who preceded her in death on Sept. 2, 2009.

Alberta is survived by eight children, Marcella (John) Walter, of Sidney, Gary (Michelle) York, of Cincinnati, Mona (Waylan) Murray, Valerie York, both of Sidney, Angela (Brian) Johnson, of Rowlett, Texas, Tammy (Al) Picariello, Sophia (Ralph) Portillo, both of Garland, Texas, and Amy (Russell) Hill, of Sidney; 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by five sisters and three brothers.

Alberta was an excellent cook and always used meal times as an opportunity to express her love of family. She was also passionate about gospel music and spent many hours singing and listening to her favorite artists, but the most defining characteristic of her life was her unwavering faith in God. Alberta attended Sidney Church of God on Wagner Avenue. She was a true "prayer warrior" and leaves behind a spiritual heritage and impact that all who knew her admired and appreciated.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 21, 2016, at noon at Cromes Funeral Home, 302 S. Main Ave., with the Rev. Shane Jackson officiating. Burial will be at Shelby Memory Gardens.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, from 10 a.m. until the time of service.

Memorial contributions may be made to Senior Independence Hospice in Alberta's memory.
