Isaac appeared in the 1850 U.S. Census, residing in Huntington Twp., Lorain County, Ohio in the home of George Blakely, 23, a carriage maker, born in Massachusetts, with his wife and three daughters. Isaac was shown as 18 years old, also working as a carriage maker, born in Massachusetts.

He enlisted as a private soldier and was mustered into Company D, 23rd Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry, May 20, 1861. He was killed in action at the Battle of South Mountain in Maryland, September 14, 1862. He may have originally been buried at Antietam National Cemetery at Sharpsburg, Maryland but there is a Grave Registration Card from the WPA project of the 1930s showing that he is buried at Greenwood Cemetery in Wellington, Ohio. The card shows that he has a gravestone.

His father, James J. Barker, filed for a pension based on Isaac's military service, December 12, 1874. It was issued as Certificate #207,26O. Nothing more is known at present about Isaac, his father, or other family members. This has been confirmed by a local cemetery source. It will be photographed and posted on the memorial soon.

Isaac's name is inscribed on the Huntington Twp. Civil War monument in Lorain County, Ohio.

From contributor Douglas Robinson: Isaac came with his two sisters to Wellington: 1: Martha Watkins (Barker) Horr (1833-1877), who married Ralph Turner Horr (1835-1882) and 2: Helen B (1850-1887) who never married. Douglas Robinson is relation to the Horr family of Wellington, Ohio.
